Single-leg calf raise

Rising onto the toes on one leg. Strong calves and Achilles tendons take much of the load of every running step and protect the lower leg.

Dose
3 × 12–15 per leg
Rest
45 s

How to do it

  1. Stand on one foot with a fingertip on the wall for balance, the other foot lifted.
  2. Rise as high as you can onto the ball of the foot.
  3. Lower slowly, taking about three seconds, until the heel is just above the floor.

Tips

  • Go all the way up every time.
  • Stand on the edge of a step or a thick book to lower the heel further.
