Cadence drill

Running at the same speed with a few more, shorter steps. A higher step rate usually means a softer landing under the body and less load on the knees.

Dose
5 × 1 min
Rest
1 min easy

How to do it

  1. At an easy pace, count your steps for 30 s and double it: that is your cadence.
  2. Keep the same speed and add 5 % more steps per minute; a metronome app helps.
  3. Run 1 min at the new cadence, 1 min normal, five times.

Tips

  • Same speed, shorter and quicker steps.
  • Listen: the landing should get quieter.
