How to do it

  1. Stand with your back against a wall and your heels about one foot-length in front of it.
  2. Keep your legs straight and lean back on the wall.
  3. Lift your toes and the front of your feet as high as you can, heels on the floor.
  4. Lower under control and repeat for 15–25 reps, until the shins burn.

Tips

  • The farther your feet are from the wall, the harder it gets.
  • Keep the knees straight and the hips against the wall.

Common mistakes

  • ✗ Going too heavy too soon.

Why it hurts: The shin muscles are small and irritated easily; overload can mimic shin splints.

✓ Instead: Start light for 15–25 slow reps and build over weeks. This muscle helps runners resist shin splints.
