Uphill power hiking

Fast walking up a steep hill with the hands pushing on the thighs. On steep trail climbs it is often as fast as running, and far cheaper.

Dose
4 × 2 min uphill
Rest
Walk down

How to do it

  1. Find a steep climb, steeper than about 15 %.
  2. Lean into the hill from the ankles and take short, quick steps.
  3. Place the hands just above the knees and push down on each step to help the legs.

Tips

  • Stay on the whole foot, let the heel touch.
  • Keep the chest open to breathe; do not fold right over.
